Background

I took Furniture Design & Detailing in the Spring of 2017. The final project for the class asked us to create a piece of furniture for a small space.

What is it?

The rocking chair I designed was meant for compact living. It's a fun lounge chair, but it's also light enough to be easily moved when not in use. However, the design was also influenced by my personal life. At the time, my depression was making it difficult for me to perform basic tasks, like cleaning off my desk to work at home. I wasn't in a place where I could do this for myself, but I could make a new work space, one I could move to different parts of my house, one that was comfortable and fun to interact with. So, I designed this chair to my preferences, making it the right length for my height, etc. I would be lying if I said it has made working easier, but it was rewarding to work on something for myself.
